If asked to imagine your perfect spa day, what scene do you think of? For many, the vision that comes to mind is sitting in a toasty hot tub or heated pool on a hot summer’s day soaking up the rays with a glass of prosecco in hand.

Festive decorations are starting to go up, Christmas songs are starting to be played on the radio and the long anticipated annual Christmas adverts have all landed on our TV screens… there’s no denying that the festive period is well and truly upon us!
Things just keep getting better for us at The Falls Spa as we have now been shortlisted as a finalist for ‘Best New Spa’ at the Good Spa Guide Awards!
Over 40 locals, a kaleidoscope of butterflies and even the glorious sun made an appearance for the official Falls Spa Garden Opening Ceremony that was held at the Lodore Falls on Tuesday 10th September 2019!
Nearly a year since The Falls Spa opened its doors to the public, the beautiful spa gardens have been a work-in-progress since November 2018 and the garden opening ceremony celebrated the final stage of the £13 million development.
Charles Graves, Dani Hope & Kit Graves (Directors of Lake District Hotels Ltd), Bruce Walker (Garden Architect from Westwood Landscape), (Matt Collins (General Manager at Lodore Falls Hotel & Spa).
Surrounding the opulent spa complex, the gardens feature a Japanese-style rock garden with Azaleas, Bamboo, Rhododendrons and many more pretty plants and flowers. You can also find a riverside walkway that leads to a relaxed terrace within the rose garden, a perfect setting for a sunny afternoon out or for a Lake District wedding.
The garden also features plenty of seated areas to appreciate the sights and scents of the glorious flowers and to soak in those 360-deree views of Derwentwater and the Cat Bells mountain range that visitors near and far flock to the Lodore Falls for.
The official opening consisted of guided tours of the grounds, including descriptions of the plants, exclusive tours of the chic spa suites and a fabulous ambience was created by talented singer Glen Anderson who reeled off all the classics.
Guests were also given the chance to sample some of the exotic flavours from our brand-new Mizu menu, as well as some of the sweet delicacies from the hotel’s new afternoon tea offering as well, with canapes from each provided throughout the event.
“We have had an excellent afternoon at our official spa gardens opening, even the sun made an appearance. A huge thank you to everyone who was involved in creating our beautiful gardens, all who turned up today and the incredible Glen Anderson, who provided a marvellous afternoon of entertainment.” – Matt Collins
The botanical paradise was brought to life by Westwood Landscape‘s distinguished garden designer, Bruce Walker, whose imaginative and exciting designs have turned the Lodore Falls grounds into a floral haven.
“The gardens compliment the prestigious new Spa with Lakeland slate walls and scented rose arbours enclosing terraced patios and seating features with distinct planting styles.” – Bruce Walker
Not only have they perfectly framed the state-of-the-art spa construction, but they offer guests a comfortable spot to soak up the natural beauty of the Lakes while enhancing the already-dramatic experience.
Like the Scandi-inspired spa building itself, the gardens have taken months of planning and preparation and it was a pleasure that so many local business people and company friends turned up to commemorate all the hard work.
We’ll let you in on a little insider-knowledge… the best place to admire the spa gardens is from The Falls Spa Infinity Edge Vitality Pool!
Imagine taking in the beauty of the grounds (as well as the Lakeland fells) from the soothing comfort of our 16-metre heated pool, complete with bubble loungers, hydro-massage neck jets and a volcano fountain that lay beneath the ripples.
Come rain or shine, it’s always toasty in The Falls Spa Infinity Pool.

Despite not always being blessed with the sunniest of Summer’s in the Lake District, there is no denying that when it does get warm, it can still make our skin uncomfortable!
When we think of summer sunshine, we are naturally conditioned to think of harmful UV rays and many of us rightfully turn to the SPF to protect our skin. However, with the likelihood of summer rain being higher in the Lake District, many of us still neglect our skin and step out supporting the Factor 0.
Even if you do take all the correct skin safety precautions, it is very common to still feel like your skin has completely dried out during the summer months. Alternatively, if you suffer from oily skin, the notorious Lake District humidity encourages increased cell turnover (which is usually a good thing!) however, during summer this means clogged pores, pimples and blackheads.
Whether your skin is in need of a moisture surge, or you’re trying to combat your slick T-zone, The Falls Spa is offering a revitalising August Treatment of the Month that will make you feel like ‘you’ again.
Feel comfortable in your own skin by taking advantage of our ‘Summer Glow’ Offer.
For just £85 per person, this exclusive offer includes:
The two treatments are carefully designed with your skin in mind, working to restore your summer glow and make you feel at your best again.
This August treatment of the month is available until August 31st.
To book, please call The Falls Spa directly on 017684 87704, or alternatively you can email email@example.com and someone will get back to you.
A trip to The Falls Spa is the perfect excuse for some well-deserved ‘me time’. Completely revitalise yourself and drift away into a world of utter relaxation in our state-of-the-art spa, one of the finest in the Lake District.
Although when many people think of a spa day the first thought that comes to mind may be a soothing massage or a calming facial, many people are yet to discover the benefits of a sensual rasul ritual.
Designed to invigorate your skin using the highest quality products, this therapy works wonders in turning back the hands of time and making your skin look and feel youthful again.
The rasul ritual dates back to ancient Arabian times when people would source warm mud, specially selected for its mineral rich properties and apply it to one another’s face and bodies in an attempt to soothe the skin.
The word rasul itself refers to a mud chamber, or in ‘ this case, a heated steam room. The idea behind it, adopted from these ancient principles, is that people can cleanse their body and mind using a combination of mud, steam and heat.
For this reason, the ritual is suitable for 2-4 people
At The Falls Spa, we use only the highest quality products that are gentle to the skin and work hard to rejuvenate. We chose La Sultane de Saba, a deluxe artisan spa brand whose products have revolutionised modern skincare.
Their ethos is based entirely around natural and therapeutic remedies from across the globe that have been passed down through generations. As a result, La Sultane de Saba products are made from rare ingredients that promote wellness, healing and completely remediate tired skin.
The incredible textures and scents of their products provide benefits not only for your skin, but also for mind and soul.
A rasul therapy is not only great for your physical wellness, but the experience provides instant psychological benefits also. As well as unveiling soft, youthful skin following the treatment, the ritual is designed to promote metabolic benefits.
Cleanses the body
The concept of the steam therapy is that increased perspiration works to expel toxic waste from within the body, regulates our body temperature and energizes our skin – the largest organ of the body. This cleanses the body of various salts, antibodies, lactic acid plus many more.
When the body is exposed to heat, our blood circulation is improved and the blood supply travels directly to the skin’s surface. As a result, we experience tension relief through muscle relaxation and circulation continue runs smoothly due to the elimination of toxins through opened pores.
The process also works psychologically to reduce stress which occurs through hormonal changes within the body, encouraged through the combination of heat, water and perspiration all involved in the ritual.
Invigorates the skin
The gentle products used during the therapy are even beneficial for more sensitive skin conditions, leaving the skin of those who suffer from psoriasis or eczema soft to touch and less irritated.
If your skin is in need of some rejuvenation or you just feel like you need to unwind with this therapeutic ritual, our spa therapist will be very happy to book this experience for you.
Opt to make a day of it and book onto our half day Restore & Rasul package priced at £75 per person, which includes:
Alternatively, if you are in a rush and are merely seeking the health benefits of the rasul, you (and up to 3 friends) can book onto the rasul only for £40 per person.
There must be a minimum of 2 people using the rasul at any time.
If you’re a bona fide spa professional, packing for a spa day is probably a habitual procedure where you don’t even have to think about what items you’re taking. However, there are a number of people who have yet to experience the sheer bliss that a spa day brings.
Whether it is an idea you’ve been toying with for a while but haven’t yet decided whether or not to take the plunge, we recommend giving a spa day a go. You can tailor-make your spa day to your unique wellbeing needs, meaning there is a spa day for everyone.
Opt for a rasul ritual if your skin has become cracked and sore from harsh weather conditions, an ELEMIS facial to reveal more youthful looking skin or decide on a sensual massage to relieve the built-up tension of the working week.
Hurray! You’re officially booked in for your first spa day, now all you need to do is prepare for it. For a newbie, it may be difficult to know exactly what essentials to bring along with you but not to worry, The Falls Spa is here to help.
To guide you through the packing process, we’ve made a list of essential items you may want to bring along on your relaxing spa day.
If you remember to pack just one thing from this list, make sure it’s something to wear in the spa!
Typical spa attire is some form of swimming costume. Women can grab their nicest swimsuit or go-to bikini, while men can choose between trunks or those token budgie smugglers that the wife keep hidden away… Just remember to be respectful of other guests!
These allow you to take a dip in the pool and are also suitable for the various heat experiences where your skin may be more likely to perspire due to heat and steam. At The Falls Spa, we actually have swimsuit drying stations which means you don’t have to throw a wet bathing suit in your handbag.
We will also provide you with luxury robes and branded flip-flops during your spa experience so you can keep yourself suitably covered as you venture to and from each heat experience.
With 12 different heat experiences to choose from including steam rooms, our infinity edge vitality pool and even a cold drench bucket, it’s safe to say that your hair is likely to get wet!
Don’t forget to bring your hairbrush so you can detangle all those annoying knots following your spa experience to reveal tidy, kink-proof hair.
If your spa package also includes afternoon tea and/or a two-course lunch served in the main hotel, we guarantee you’ll be glad you brought a brush!
A shout-out for all the lovely ladies out there! We do recommend going al fresco when you visit The Falls Spa so your skin can reap the benefits the spa aims to provide.
By sporting a bare face, your unrestricted skin can soak up all the benefits of the different spa therapies including the aroma steam room, salt steam room, Finnish sauna plus many more.
This way, you don’t have to worry about your face starting to perspire as you support your best high-end foundation. Plus, let’s be real here, no one really wants mascara running down their face after taking a dip in the infinity edge vitality pool.
If you are booked in for a facial we would especially recommend removing your makeup beforehand, although the therapists will perform a deep cleanse at the beginning of the treatment.
If you are lucky enough that your spa day falls on one of the rare Lake District scorchers, it’s likely that you will want to spend a lot of your time outside admiring the scenery. For this reason, packing a bottle of sunscreen is a must as you will be exposed to direct sunlight.
Even if you visit during the summer months but it doesn’t feel that warm, we still massively recommend protecting your skin with some form of sun protection. You’ll be surprised how damaging the sun’s UV rays can be even when the temperature is on the lower side or the sky is overcast.
Despite not being the most glamorous activity to do at the spa, it doesn’t make sense trying all the thermal experiences to benefit your skin just to then expose it to sun damage. We urge you to stay safe and bring your sunscreen.
A book or a magazine
At The Falls Spa, we want our customers to feel completely relaxed in whatever way suits them. For many, this involves a quick read of a good book or magazine.
Lie back on our heated thermal loungers and put your feet up as you delve into the tales of Jane Austen, or, if you prefer, keep up with the Kardashians with the latest gossip mag.
Your spa day is what you make of it and we want you to feel completely comfortable.
Although your skin will be exposed to high quality products during your time at the spa through our various range of invigorating treatments, you may want to bring some toiletries of your own.
Many guests tend to bring shampoos and conditioners so they can give their hair a total refresh following their spa day, however, we do supply these in the spa changing rooms.
Washing your hair is definitely something to consider if you will be enjoying a meal at Mizu or afternoon tea in the hotel afterwards. Hair dryers are provided at The Falls Spa so don’t worry about what to do with your hair after washing it.
Other toiletries you may want to bear in mind include deodorants and facial care including moisturisers. Please note, if you do receive a facial, your therapist may advise against putting further products on your face so please do pay attention to your therapists’ advice at the time of treatment.
We suggest taking it off, but we also recommend bringing it along if you’re going to be out and about following your spa day!
The thought of going bare faced may strike fear into the hearts of many, and if this is you, this is your friendly reminder to pack the essentials beforehand.
This may be worth considering if you’re a makeup aficionado and are intending to enjoy a delectable afternoon tea or a sumptuous 2-course meal afterwards – but either way you will receive no judgement from us!
As mentioned previously, if you are booked in for a facial during your spa day, it is likely that your therapist will advise against using products on your face for up to 24 hours after treatment. Again, please do bear this in mind at the time of booking if you have makeup-essential plans afterwards as you may want to consider an alternative treatment.
Last but not least on our list is your beloved mobile phones!
It’s true, we cannot live without them, but surely you wouldn’t want to visit the ‘most Instagrammable’ spa in the whole of the country and not snap a pic?
We love seeing your spa photos whether they’re happy selfies or stunning panoramic snaps of the surrounding Lake District fells. So, when you do post on ‘the gram’, make sure you tag us, hashtag #thefallsspa or mention our handle @thefallsspa so we can see them!
You never know, your photos may even get featured on our social media pages!
Although photos are encouraged, we kindly ask that all mobiles are turned to silent mode while accessing the facilities, so to offer a tranquil experience to yourself and other guests at the time. If you do need to make a call, please be considerate of others.
‘Fall in love’ with The Falls Spa as you escape your weekly stresses and journey into a zone of pure relaxation. The Falls Spa experience has been carefully designed with wellness in mind and the various experiences are shaped to encourage utter tranquillity for our guests. A trip to The Falls Spa is guaranteed to leave you feeling completely zen.
Some of the most impressive features of the luxury Falls Spa are the notable number of different heat experiences, each delicately designed to restore and rejuvenate. There is a total of 12 heat experiences in the spa complex, diverse in their own way, each promoting individual health-benefits.
With so many remarkable heat treatments, we realise that it can be quite overwhelming even for spa connoisseurs, let alone a spa newbie. For this reason, we wanted to make your serene spa day as peaceful as possible by expertly guiding you through the different experiences in an order that best promotes your wellness.
Follow our suggestions and you can spa like a pro too.
The first stop on the spa tour is the Laconium. This is a dry sauna which is heated to 35°C at low humidity (15-20%), making it feel cooler than a steam room despite being a similar temperature. It is based on traditional Roman baths and is designed for you to sit back, relax, admire the starry ceiling and absorb the heat. The Laconium serves to purify and detoxify the body by stimulating circulation through the use of warm temperatures.
We recommend spending up to 20 minutes in the Laconium.
Although you can use the Forest Rinse Shower at any point during your spa journey, we recommend using it following the warm Laconium experience. This is a double rinse shower that aims to cleanse and refresh the skin after dry heat exposure.
Next stop on your journey is the Aroma Steam Room, a humid room where the scents of restorative, relaxing and energizing essential oils permeate the steamy air. The room is heated to 45°C with a humidity of 95%. Some of the health benefits include muscle relaxation and can be extremely beneficial for cardiovascular health from improved blood circulation.
We recommend spending up to 15 minutes in the Aroma Steam Room.
We recommend using the Tropical Rain Shower following the humid heat experience to reinvigorate the skin. The shower features uplifting fragrances, fluctuating water pressures, varying temperatures and diverse mood lighting, giving you all the sensations of an authentic rain forest shower.
Following a refreshing rain shower experience, make your way into the sizeable Salt Steam Room to get warmed up again. Heated at 40°C at 95% humidity, relax and inhale the salt-infused steam to cleanse the sinuses and promote healthier respiration. The salt in the wet air can also promote healing of broken skin tissue and leave your skin feeling revitalised.
We recommend spending up to 15 minutes in the Salt Steam Room.
This advanced shower is based on the healing water therapies devised by Professor Kneipp, a leading hydrotherapy specialist. Kneipp’s theory is based around the notion that metabolism can be boosted by briefly shocking the body into a false sense of fever. Expect warm then cool shower jets that brace various points of the body to ensure a wholesome bodily refresh. This is excellent to cool the body down following the steam room experience.
If the Thermal Sensation Shower hasn’t cooled you down enough, the continuously running ice fountain is sure to do the trick. This was installed to help guests cool down quickly following a sauna or steam experience. The crushed ice works in a restorative manner to reduce your body temperature and stimulate the senses. Simply rub the ice all over your body when you feel like the skin is overheating or feels in need of a refresh.
After nicely cooling the body down, this is the perfect opportunity to get it heated back up again! The herbal sauna works differently to a traditional sauna, insomuch that the heat is infused with invigorating herbs such as eucalyptus, peppermint, lavender, sage and chamomile to sooth and calm the senses. The Herbal Sauna is heated at 65-75°C with a humidity of 5-8%.
We recommend spending up to 15 minutes in the Herbal Sauna.
After heating things up in the Herbal Sauna, step into our amazing Finnish Sauna to heat things up furthermore. The Finnish Sauna offers a heat experience unlike any other as it has been fitted with a large glass window, providing guests with magnificent views spanning over Derwentwater. Heated at 85°C, experience the health benefits of dry heat including increased blood flow to the skin which works to restore its properties, reduced muscle soreness and improved joint movement. The Finnish Sauna is excellent in helping to ease arthritic pain.
We recommend spending up to 15 minutes in the Finnish Sauna
Once things have nicely heated up and you vacate the Finnish Sauna, you will want to cool your body down with our Cold Drench Bucket. Although not for everyone, the drench bucket offers an instant and stimulating cool-down. Once you get over the shock of the cold water, your skin tone and blood circulation are improved greatly. Simply pull the cord and brace yourself – we promise it is worth it and you will soon warm up again.
Jump into the Hot & Cold Outdoor Shower to awaken the senses furthermore and enjoy a refreshing shower al fresco. The outdoor shower offers the perfect opportunity for you to take in views of Catbells and appreciate the stylish Scandinavian architecture of The Falls Spa complex in all its grandeur.
The final destination on your spa journey is our Infinity Edge Vitality Pool; the piece de résistance of the entire spa. Step into the warm, soothing waters of the pool and discover bubble loungers, hydro-massage neck jets and a volcano fountain that lay beneath the ripples. Make your way through the 16-metre pool to discover panoramic views across the Borrowdale Valley as you approach the pool’s infinity-edge. The pool depth is 1.2 metres and this is the perfect location to sip that long-awaited glass of prosecco as you soak in the tranquil atmosphere.
